Customer Challenge

MindMax need a robust AWS Landing Zone to serve as the foundation for their AI-powered learning platform. With plans for rapid user growth, they require an infrastructure capable of scaling dynamically while maintaining high availability and cost efficiency. Observability and monitoring were critical to ensure performance and operational transparency. The solution has to follow AWS best practices, incorporating automation, security, and streamlined infrastructure management, enabling MindMax to focus on innovation rather than managing infrastructure.

Solution

The team at SeveralClouds structured MindMax’s cloud adoption by first establishing a secure AWS Landing Zone using AWS Control Tower, ensuring a multi-account strategy that enforces best practices for security, governance, and scalability. A centralized authentication approach was implemented to enhance security and streamline access management, reducing the reliance on credential sprawl.

The next key focus was establishing the right networking foundation to support MindMax’s current stage of application development. They needed a cost-efficient solution with room to scale, along with secure access for their development teams. To achieve this, networking components were structured and deployed using infrastructure as code with Terraform, ensuring consistency, repeatability, and easier management. AWS Client VPN was configured to allow developers to interact with cloud resources securely from literally anywhere - fitting seamlessly with MindMax’s remote-first culture, where team members collaborate across Brighton, London, Mumbai, Burgundy, and Riga.

Going serverless allowed MindMax to focus on application development rather than infrastructure maintenance, ensuring better resource utilization and reducing operational overhead. Additionally, the pay-as-you-go pricing model helped optimize costs, particularly beneficial for a growing platform with variable workloads. To streamline deployments, we built GitHub Actions pipelines with reusable workflows, optimizing deployment cycles for faster iterations and secure, automated releases as the application evolved.

Security and performance were reinforced by implementing AWS WAF to protect against malicious traffic and Amazon CloudFront to accelerate content delivery and reduce latency for end users. Observability remained essential, so we put in place a straightforward monitoring and alerting setup with Amazon Q Developer for chat applications (formerly AWS Chatbot) to ensure visibility into system performance and potential issues.

The serverless architecture and automated deployment eliminated infrastructure management overhead, allowing MindMax to focus on their core mission of revolutionizing digital learning.
